The Quilt Starter Workshops are in-person interactive session and have two parts:

  1. Project introduction, thematic brainstorming and technical and design information for completing your panel.  Participants that decide to join the project, will be provided a square cotton muslin panel to use as the panel base. (~1 hour)
  2. Open studio time to start designing and creating your panel (optional to stay for this, but its the fun part-2 hours) People who have attended previous quilt starter workshops and want to return to work on their square may drop-in during the open studio time to work side by side with others. Plan to arrive 1 hour and 15 min after the event start time.

After the introductory part of the Quilt Starter Workshop, you will be asked to decide if you will commit to making a panel for the Community Quilt. If you join the project, we will provide you with a pre-cut cotton base material and printed instructions. You will also be required to register with a 'username' and an email address and phone number so we can follow up and check on your progress. Completed panels are due no later than May 15.

  • Pre-registration for these workshops is encouraged so we know how many people to expect.
  • Workshops are free and volunteer-led. We are seeking volunteer artists, quilters, teachers to help lead workshops. Contact us if you are interested.
  • Donations of materials or funds are welcome. These will help cover material expenses.
  • Organizers are seeking no-cost venues to hold workshops. We are starting with public library spaces, but seek other options, too. Contact us if you have a location that can accommodate a group.
  • Need a workshop in a different language? We love that idea, and would love to brainstorm with you to find a way make this happen.

Host a Quilt Starter Workshop for your group, at your location

We can bring the one-hour workshop to your group or location! Contact us to make arrangements. info@wethepeoplequilt.org

This part involves you! Creating together is a terrific way to build community. Organize a 'We the People Quilt Meetup' gathering at your location to help folks work on their designs and provide mutual support to get their panels done by the deadline, May 15. If you want the meetup to be open to others, send us the information (email info@wethepeoplequilt.org) and we can add it to the event calendar below.
